As you saw in the Edward Tulane papers that went home last week, we are looking forward to sending our Edwards out to friends and family so that we can begin tracking his whereabouts ASAP. I have a template letter that we will use to send out with Edward and the students will work on thank you letters in advance. What would be helpful to me would be the specific names of the people to whom we will be sending letters, so I will send home notice later this week to let each family know where their Edward will be sent. I know that some people might not be comfortable giving me the addresses, so I can send home stamped envelopes that can be addressed and placed in the mail from your own home. There were some people who mentioned that they would be able to send letters out of the country and I am happy to provide stamps (however, I'm sure how many stamps would be necessary for proper postage).
Here's a look at some of the topics we will be looking at in the following week or two:
- Math: wrapping up ch.1 (place value, rounding) and taking a test; beginning ch. 2 a review of addition (additional nightly studying of basic math facts at home with flash cards is strongly advised!!)
- Science: we are working on studying different kinds of rocks and soils (Ch.7....no we're not reading our book at lightening speed, we skip around!). This past Friday, students took a trip in our classroom exhibit of rocks samples and books--some students were kind enough to bring in their own specimen from home!
- S.S.: We have been preparing for our Ch. 1 test on Tuesday; we will begin Ch. 2 and a side project in preparation for Thanksgiving.
If you are able to help please send me an email and I can tell you exactly what I'm hoping to achieve!
