First, I want to give a shout out to any parents and students who were able to attend or participate at the mass hosted by our class last week. The students did a wonderful job and made me very proud!! Any students who didn't get to come or have a role this time will certainly have an opportunity to be involved at the next mass that our class will host later this year.
In the wake of progress reports being sent home, I hope that you all make sure to take a look at the variety of new grades that have been added since. I had a few emails of concern, but most grades were probably changed within a day or two of reports being emailed! I'm sure any additional concerns can be addressed at conferences. For any parents who were not able to set up a time for a conference for Monday, send me an email and we will find a time that works better for you.
Last week, the class worked very hard to prep pieces for the class project that will be auctioned at the Harvest Gala....it's going to be great.....so you WON'T want to miss this event!! Our class has created a wonderful keepsake, and I think it will be a big ticket item!
In regards to topics in the classroom, I'm asking that parents continue to encourage nightly review of math facts (currently we're doing a big review of addition and will be moving shortly into a review of subtraction). I can't stress enough the importance of solidly knowing facts of 10 both adding to 10 and subtracting....it is the basis for simple addition and subtraction, but lack of memorization is definitely a hinderance. Students should also be practicing doubles facts. Of course, this is in addition to squeezing in about 15 minutes of reading.......easier than you think. Have your child read aloud as you cook dinner or drive to sports practice!
I look forward to seeing many of you at conferences and certainly at the Harvest Gala!
